I’m pleased to report that my proposal to speak at Technical Communications UK 2010 (TCUK) has been accepted. I’m going to speaking on the theme of Content Strategy for Everyone. I won’t be alone in following Kristina Halvorson’s exhortation to “bang the big drum” for content strategy – Roger Hart will be speaking there about his experiences as well.
According to Ms. Halvorson, you need to meet a list of qualifications to be an advocate for content strategy. Luckily for me, the list only has one item in it: “an interest in content strategy”. I’ve certainly got that. In my presentation I’m going to talk about how the frustrations felt by web content strategists are also felt by other people involved in corporate communications including technical writers and e-learning specialists.
More importantly, I think that the answers that content strategists are adopting can be used to great effect by other writers and editors in an organisation, and that bringing content developers and content publishers together not only encourages re-use and cost savings, but can create better and more effective copy everywhere.
I hope you’ll come along to TCUK, because content strategy is just one of the hot topics up for debate at this wide-ranging conference. Last year, TCUK proved itself to be the very best tech comms conference we’ve had in the UK for a very long time. I’ve no doubt this year’s conference will be just as good.

Looking forward to both presentations on this topic, and I’ll see you there!
I’ll see you there David although I may miss your session as it is immediately after mine and in a different stream. Ho hum!
