Save Pervez

The Independent newspaper has launched a campaign to save the life of an Afghan student journalist, Sayed Pervez Kambaksh aged 23, who has been sentenced to death for downloading a human rights report from the Internet critical of the lack of rights for women in Afghanistan. Kambaksh was tried before a religious court for “disrespecting the Koran”, and was not allowed any legal defence.

Executing people for just reading about human rights is a new low, even from a regime not noted for its open and liberal attitudes. It is, says the Independent, an “affront to civilized values”.
I urge you to read the article in the Independent and to sign the petition.
